Privacy policy
Last updated: October 17, 2026
Our Shop List is built to keep as little information about you as possible. This page explains what the app keeps, where it is kept, and how you can have it removed.
Short version
- Your lists, items, photos and barcodes are stored in your own iCloud account, and shared only with the people you invite to a list.
- There is no sign-up, no advertising, and no tracking or analytics.
- A small notification service keeps the few details it needs to tell the people on a shared list that something changed.
- Payments are handled by Apple. We never see your card or payment details.
Your lists, photos and barcodes
Everything you create in the app, such as lists, items, quantities, descriptions, photos, scanned barcodes and your history of completed lists, is saved in your iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit. We do not have access to your iCloud account or its contents.
When you share a list, Apple's sharing system gives the people you invite access to that list. They can see its items, and the photos and descriptions on them, and can add and check off items. Photos and descriptions added to a shared list are stored in the iCloud storage of the person who owns the list.
Notifications about shared lists
To let you know when someone changes a shared list, the app talks to a small notification service that we run. It keeps:
- an identifier for your iCloud account, and the name you entered in the app, so a notification can say who made a change;
- the notification address Apple gives your device, and the version of the app you use;
- the identifier and name of each shared list you belong to, and whether you muted it;
- short-lived counts of recent changes (for example, three items added), which are deleted as soon as the notification has been sent. The names of your items are not sent to or kept by this service.
This service runs on the hosting provider Fly.io, and notifications are delivered through Apple's push notification service. Your device's entry is removed when Apple tells us the device can no longer receive notifications, for example after the app is deleted. You can ask us to remove it sooner by email.
Camera and photos
The app asks to use your camera to scan barcodes and to take photos of items. Barcode scanning happens on your device and the camera images are not saved or sent anywhere. A photo you choose or take for an item is saved with that item in iCloud, as described above. The app does not read the rest of your photo library.
Subscriptions
Our Shop List Pro is an Apple subscription. Apple handles the purchase and billing and tells the app on your device whether your subscription is active. We do not receive your name, payment details or purchase history.
